George Oates
Website: http://george08.blogspot.com
George is a writer by mistake. After taking up the weblog challenge from Vancouver in August of 2003, she inadvertently wrote the equivalent of a short thesis in her role as designer of Flickr, arguably the world's best photosharing website. She is a voracious fiction lover, and some favorite authors include Iris Murdoch, Martin Amis, Peter Carey, and Philip Roth.
She currently resides in San Francisco, where she runs the Open Library project for the Internet Archive. She's thinking about getting two kittens, if she gets a Green Card.

If this contribution has piqued your interest, feel free to build on it: Post your own version of the story's continuation here in comments, on Twitter, on Flickr, or text us at (805) 628-2283. You can also wait for the May 15th SLO event and type it all on a real live typewriter.

I don't know what you mean by "build upon" in this context. I do like bit of text very much. I identified immediately. It made me smile.
ReplyDeleteHi Knitsteel! 'build upon' can be your opinion on what the writer wrote, it can be a few typed lines of a similar theme, or anything that you can type that your creative heart desires! Just as long as it is your original prose or you attribute the original. (ps: we love your blog!)

Hi there, here's a link to a post that describes what we're doing:
ReplyDeletehttp://thereadinginpublicproject.blogspot.com/2010/03/lucy-launches-typing-in-public.html
We're gathering opening lines for each of our locations on May 15th, because some people may need inspiration, some may not. For the people who decide to continue what's been written before their turn at the typewriter, they'll be asked to creatively link that contribution to the author immediately preceding them (building on what's been written). We're also encouraging that to start here, online.
George's words would then become the first sentence of a longer narrative.
